Message from the President

Akira Takahashi

RWMC has two pillar missions. One is research for radioactive waste management. The other is administration of funds for geological disposal of radioactive waste and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

Since 1976, as the sole neutral research organization specialized in radioactive waste in Japan, RWMC has been conducting a broad array of research with the aid of academic and industrial competencies. Our research area is related to hardware and software for all types of radioactive waste, from low-level to high-level. Through these research activities, RWMC has been contributing to support of national policies, development of advanced safety regulations, and expansion of alternatives for power utilities and implementing entities of waste disposal.

Meanwhile, as the fund administration corporation under the Designated Radioactive Waste Final Disposal Act, RWMC in 2000 started the administration of the final disposal fund for geological disposal accumulated by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization of Japan (NUMO), the implementing entity for geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste.

The circumstances surrounding nuclear power have been drastically changing. Facing such circumstances, we have reconfirmed our mission to continue our public services more actively.

We would be sincerely grateful for your further support and cooperation for our mission.
